Merle Bombardieri is excited to announce a new book on parenthood decision making, expected in 2025! The new book’s working title is Baby or Childfree? Deciding in the Face of Climate Change, Fear of Missing Out, Regret, Pregnancy, Fair Role Sharing, and other Concerns.

Are you wondering: “Why a new book? Why Now?”
Three years ago, I discovered an amazing chat group on Reddit called Fencesitter (r/fencesitter). Its members are either current decision-makers, or people who are three or more years into living childfree or raising a child.
These recent veteran decision-makers offer trustworthy advice. They stay in the group to pay it forward because they still remember the agony of making their own decisions, and how much help they got from the group’s recent decision-makers—newly launched into parenthood or a committed childfree life.
I found this group when I discovered that Reddit Fencesitter members were often recommending The Baby Decision to each other, and advising readers on how to apply the book’s wisdom to their own lives.
I immediately joined the discussion, with permission from the moderators to be a guest professional participant. I frequently responded to posts, and participated in a few AMA (Ask Me Anything) posts. I found myself answering more and more questions about climate change, pandemics, terror of pregnancy, fear of missing out, and fear of old age for those leaning childfree. But as I tried to refer fence-sitters to relevant sections of The Baby Decision, I was chagrined to discover that the book didn’t adequately answer the newest questions.
I heard an inner call to write a new book! It feels not only like an exciting invitation, but also a moral obligation. It is also an opportunity for me to share knowledge I’ve gained through forty years of coaching, conducting psychotherapy, speaking, and teaching on the topic.
